I saw this post earlier when searching through the Brave tag, and while I didn’t want to reblog it and get in a fight over it, I felt the need to just add my own comments about the princesses for myself.
I don’t see how all the Disney princesses sit on their asses waiting for the men to save them, on the contrary, I think quite a few fight their own battles.
I mean, lest we forget that Mulan is counted in the princesses by Disney, I think that’s pretty self-explanatory. But otherwise, Tiana works hard to reach her dreams, she doesn’t depend on a man for that. Ariel actually saves Eric from drowning, Rapunzel saves Eugene’s life, Pocahontas saves John Smith, and Belle doesn’t depend on a man to save her at all—she refuses to marry Gaston, and her primary goal in the film is to take care of her father.
I could really go on in a lot of ways about all of the princesses, but it unnerves me when people say the princesses are bad role models. I learned a lot from not only Disney princesses growing up but Disney characters in general, and I think I turned out pretty damn good.

Even the original three aren’t bad role models at all. Cinderella got her butt to that ball because she saw it as a way out of a bad situation. And Snow White and Aurora WERE DEAD! How in the hell are you supposed to save yourself when you’re dead?! The original three teach us to be kind and sweet, and anyone who thinks that’s a ‘bad role model’ is ridiculous.
Ariel sold her voice to be human, that is the opposite of ‘sitting on your ass and waiting for a man to come save you’. Belle’s story was never about her being saved, it was about HER saving the Beast. Jasmine left her palace and gave up being a princess to be free, and only went back because she thought she needed to save Aladdin from being arrested (and if you don’t think that she would’ve left again had Aladdin not shown up, I don’t know what Princess Jasmine you’re watching), Pocahontas STOPPED A WAR, Mulan SAVED CHINA, Tiana worked hard every day of her life for her dream, and Rapunzel was a prisoner who broke free and ended up saving Eugene’s life, a life for which she was willing to sacrifice her own.
So this person better just stop, because I don’t know what the heck movies he/she’s watching.
Also, why are they saying lesbian like it’s a bad thing… ?
